Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D 1280X/42: Review
Now, I am a fan of foil shavers however, the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D is a really good shaver that it even competes with foil shavers. If you have light hair that grows in multiple directions, the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D 1280X/42 rotary shaver is ideal.
The Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D 1280X/42 rotary shaver is one of the recently-released models by Philips. It has the most high-end features and the most expensive in 8000 series. It is the ideal shave for anyone who prefers the rotary over the foil shavers.
I will do a in-depth Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D review so that you can make an informed decision on whether or not to buy this rotary shaver!

What’s in the Box?
With the Phillips Norelco Sensotouch 3D 1250XCC you get:
- Electric razor itself
- Safety cap
- Small cleaning brush
- Instruction manual
- One month supply of the Jetclean solution
- Traveling Case
- Electrical Cord Charger
- The Charging & Cleaning Base
- Charging Stand
Charging and Cleaning
The electrical cord will not connect with the razor itself so, you will need to take the charging stand with you if you’re traveling. The charging stand will not fit every travel bag but, it does have some good suction cups at the bottom. You place the shaver right side up on the stand to charge it.
You can also charge it in the cleaning base, you just have to flip it around and place it down on the cleaning base. The 1250X has the charging bar display while the 1290X and the 1280X will have a digital display for the battery life, it will tell you how many minutes are left.
A fully charged with the 1250X should last 50 minutes however the 1280X & 1290X will last you 60 minutes. So, just a small minor difference between the battery life and battery display.
Setting up the cleaning station is really easy. You’re just going to squeeze the two buttons on the bottom of the base and slide the top off. Get the jet clean solution and you’re just going to fill up to the line and then you just slip the top back on and your done.
When the shaver is in the base, the shaver is going to automatically charge and start the cleaning process you just need to press the power on button. With the 1280X CC you have one cleaning setting whereas the 1280X CC you have three cleaning settings. The shaver will stop charging when it’s being cleaned and will continue charging after it’s cleaned.
Manually cleaning the shaver is super simple and you will need to do it with some of the models which don’t have a cleaning base. What you want to do is just run the shaving head in under some hot water for about 30 seconds to a minute and do it when it’s off and don’t worry about getting it too wet it is pretty waterproof. What you can also do is open the 3 shaving heads open and you can run that under hot water as well. If you want a very thorough clean you can just take out the blades and wash them individually.
The Philips Norelco Sensotouch 3D fits really nicely in the hand and it is quite quiet compared to some of the other models. It has a precision trimmer on the left which pops out which is good for your sideburns.
Now since it is waterproof you can do a wet shave with this electric shaver. The design is definitely very ultra model looking.
I tried both dry and wet shave using the Philips Norelco Sensotouch 3D electric shaver and I must say for a rotary shaver (I am not a fan of rotary shavers, I prefer foil shaver) it was quite good. But, I do have to say that my wet shave got me a much smoother result than my dry shave.
If you are going to use this as a wet shaver then this particular shaver might be for you but, if you are going to use this as a dry shaver, some of the other brands in the same price category like the Braun Series 7 and the Panasonic high-end shavers for me did a better job dry shaving.
Philips Norelco Sensotouch 3D Noteworthy Features
1. GyroFlex 3D Contouring
It has three dynamic parts, independent of each other, and flex outwards. It has a pivot around it that tilts on the inwards. The head of the shaver is designed to reach areas such as the neck and jawline. It also spins in multiple directions giving you a close and perfect shave. However, it is not the perfect choice for a thick beard.
2. The Ultra-Track Shaving Head
It contains three special tracks designed to reach even the smallest piece of hair. The tracks move freely and cover the entire facial area for a close and perfect shave.
3. Super lift and cut
Shaving the facial hair around your neck and jawline is quite difficult. They are hard areas to cover while shaving and they suffer from bumps and cuts. The lift and cut feature of the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D 1280X/42 Shaver cover such difficult areas and offers a clean shave.
4. Wet and dry shave feature
Most manual shavers require gel for easy shaving. Nobody wants to develop skin problems after shaving. The wet and dry technology makes shaving easy even on dry skin. It is 100 percent waterproof and can be used as one takes a shower.
5. Jet cleaning system
The Jet cleaning system makes the shaver easy to clean. It lubricates and charges the shaver simultaneously. It lubricates and decreases the shaver and removes all the germs.
First off I really liked the Jet clean system, I thought it was a great cleaning system. Easy to use and easy to setup. It did a great job but, it is an option you can go without these shavers are fully waterproof so you can use the wet shaving and manually clean them under water.
This shaver is for you if you like rotary shavers and you like wet shaving since there are many shavers in the same price category which do a better job in my personal experience then this at dry shaving.
