The World’s First 5-Blade Cutting system
When it comes to one of the best electric shavers, there’s no doubt you’ll think about the Panasonic ES-LV81-K Arc 5. It not only meets expectations justifying its price but, it exceeds in much more. This is the world’s first electric shaver which provides the 5-blade cutting system.
If your having problems with the 4 bladed models or had problems, then you should consider looking at the Arc 5. It is one of the fastest, most accurate and most comfortable razor on the market, and coming second to the Braun Series 7 in terms of overall performance.

Charging and Cleaning
Charging the shaver is really straightforward, just have it turned off and then plug it the electric cord. A full charge should take around 1 hour and that’ll give you around 45 minutes of worth of shaving time. When you charging it for the first time or you haven’t used it for a while the lights might not light up right away but, when it is fully charged it turns off so you don’t have to worry about overcharging the shaver. The shaver runs off lithium-ion batteries so every once in a while it’s best to drain it fully and then fully recharge it, this could be done maybe once a month.
Cleaning these Panasonic shavers is really straightforward as well. You just rinse them under some running water. Just gently remove the foil cap, set it aside and hold the power on button for two seconds which turns on turbo mode then just rinse that under some running water. You can also rinse off the oil cap as well. Same thing just rinse it under some running water and then shake away any large water drops and set it aside to dry. Once in a while, you’ll also want to do a thorough clean with some liquid soap so, you can put the foil cap on and apply some liquid soap directly to the foils and then turn on turbo mode and rinse it under some running water. This is good if you use it quite often you probably want to do that maybe once or twice a week. And remember when you remove the foil cap you see any stub where you can simply blow it or brush it away gently.
There haven’t been any new major improvements to the cleaning & charging station from the LA9 3k which was the previous model with four blades.
The main feature of the Arc 5 is that they are all designed to different things whether it’s cut longer hair or shorter stubble and that along with a pivoting head is designed to give you a very comfortable and smooth shave.
On the back, there are a few options called free block and then the trimmer setting so if you lock that into the locking setting that will lock the shaving head into place which makes it non-pivotal and then if you put it back on to free you can see it pivots 360 degrees and then if you push it all the up that’s where the pop-up trimmer is which is good for trimming down a beard or lining out some sideburns.
On the front of the shaver directly below the power button, there is a locking switch so when you lock that in you can’t turn the shaver on so that’s good for traveling. When you do turn the shaver on you can see it will tell you how long you use to port and the remaining battery life. When you clean your shaver which you should do after every time you use it, you simply just pop off the foil and you can rinse the inner blades that foil pops off very easily and it’s very easy to put it back on.
So, the overall design is a typical Panasonic shaver design and the main feature of these shavers is, of course, the five blades.
Overall my dry shaving experience was excellent. I really noticed that there was no resistance when shaving my cheek left and chin areas. Most electric shavers can deliver a smooth finish around your cheek and lips but, if you have very thick facial hair and you’re using a less powerful shaver you might have a tough time shaving your skin area where facial hair tends to be a bit denser.
This combination of five blades feather with a powerful motor really delivers a nice smooth shave with little to no irritation.
I found it did a really good job around my neck which tends to be a problem area for those with thick facial hair. Especially if they’re using a less powerful and less advanced shaver but, with a few extra passes you can certainly get a nice smooth finish.
If you want to do a wet shave just set up the shaver like you would normally do with a disposable blade so, wash your face with some nice warm water and then rub in some shaving cream, shaving gel or some shaving soap every once in a while you’re just going to want to rinse the electric shaver under some running water.
Personally, I prefer dry shaving shaves a bit more. I find the wet shaves are a bit messy with electric shaver but, if you are interested in washing your face before you shave and using maybe your favorite cream and gel especially if you have sensitive skin then these Panasonic shavers are definitely the models you want to choose.
Comparison with Panasonic ES-LA93-K (4-Blade)
When compared to a 4-Blade… The previous 4-blade model, the Panasonic-LA93-K (Read Review), is classy and stylish. The unique Lift-Tech feature is especially liked because of its ability to cover hard to reach areas like the neck. It also features:
- motor speed of 14,000 CPM
- multi-flex pivoting head
- curved foil
Additionally, this model is about half the price of the ES-LV81-K. Overall, the 4-blade series provides a smooth comfortable shave, making sure you don’t have to worry about the bends of your face.
Panasonics Ar5 does deliver an excellent shave and that is something you should expect from these models. They are the most advanced Panasonic shavers and the most expensive shavers on the market right now. Whether you want to get a cleaning station or not will depend on whether you want to spend a little bit of extra money on the convenience part. These shavers can easily be cleaned manually by running water and some liquid soap once in a while so it’s not totally necessary to opt in for the cleaning station and if you were buying these and their retail prices I would say you should just stick with the LV61-A because the retail prices differ by around $100 I think but, if you shop from the links we provide on here it is generally cheaper than buying it from retail.
The five blades do deliver a really nice smooth shave. The final product is excellent the process is very good as well. I can really feel it just mow down through your facial hair. If you want the most advanced shaver on the market and you are willing to spend the money. I know you won’t be disappointed with the Panasonic Arc 5 Electric Shaver.
If you want a truly luxurious and comfortable shaving experience, look further than the Panasonic ES-LV81-K Arc5.
