Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4 Review
In this post I will do a Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4 Review and help you make an informed decision on whether or not to purchase this electric shaver or not! When the Panasonic Arc 4 came out it had a very high retail price of $399 but, that has significantly dropped by almost half now. Making this quiet viable especially for a top performing electric shaver.
Generally, the other Panasonic models are quite expensive compared to this one, so the price is definitely a plus for this shaver. The Panasonic Arc 4 has a 14,000 CPM motor just the same as the Panasonic Arc 5.
Make sure to read the entire review before deciding on purchasing or not purchasing this electric shaver!
The Arc 4 is split into 2 different models.
Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4
- Cleaning Station
- Blue/Black Color
Panasonic ES-LA63-S Arc 4
- Grey/Silverish Color
NOTE: The Shaving Performance is the same for all models.
What comes in the box?
With the Panasonic ES-LA93-K Arc 4 you will get:
- The electric shaver itself
- A Safety Cap
- Instruction book
- Traveling Case
- Electric cord Charger
- Water Jug (Goes into the back of the cleaning base)
- Cleaning & Charging Base
- One Panasonic Cleaning Cartridge
Charging and Cleaning
Setting up the cleaning station is really easy, the first thing you want to do is just fill the water jug up to the line with water. Once the water jug is filled up just simply click the cap in and you’re going to slide the jug into the back of the cleaning base.
Lastly, you’re just going to take the Panasonic cleaning cartridge and going to remove the top plastic cover and then you’re going to remove the side plastic cover. Slip the cleaning cartridge right in the back.
Charging the shaver is pretty straightforward. Every time the shavers turned on, the battery life will be displayed. So you need to charge it by inserting it into the charging base and lining up the prongs on the back.
Or you can directly charge the shaver with the electrical cord. You can just slip it into the base. It is ideal if you’re doing to travel because you’re not going to take the cleaning & charging base with you.
There’s a status light on the left and that will blink when the Panasonic cleaning cartridge is not installed and it will glow when the Panasonic cleaning stir cartridge is installed and needs to be replaced. On the right you have the clean and dry and below it you have the select button so, once you press that select button you will cycle through the options you can clean or dry the shaver.
To fully charge the shaver it should take about 60 minutes and run through the cleaning station should also be an hour. Once the shaver is cleaned and fully charged, it’ll go into a standby mode where it just blinks on and off. You have to worry about overcharging the shaver so, you can just leave the shaver in the base plugged in or you can unplug it.
You can easily clean these shavers manually, simply just put some hand soap or liquid soap on the shaver and just hold down the power button for 2 seconds which puts it into turbo mode and once that’s done for about 20 seconds, you can just rinse it with some water. Then Take the cap off and hit turbo mode again for about 20 seconds.
The Panasonic Arc 4 fits well in the hand, however, the shaving head is a bit larger than some of the previous models and some other shavers. So, that’s going to be good for covering more area on your face which may lead to fewer strokes and for some people that mean’s less irritation.
The shaver is definitely on the louder side when you turn it on, which is a negative for some people. The shaver will show you how long you use the shaver for and it will display the battery life.
It has a lock-in button which when you set it to lock mode, you can’t turn the shaver on. This is perfect if you are traveling.
One improvement from the previous model is that the motor is a bit more powerful (14 thousand revolutions per minute as opposed to 13 thousand). Another improvement is the shaving head which is bigger. It also pivots side to side & back and forth which makes it a 360-degree pivoting head (Keep in mind it also has a lock-in button for the pivoting head which stops it from pivoting. Perfect for shaving your upper lip or chin).
Another thing they added was that the foil cap this time was very easily removed so it’s great for cleaning the shaver manually or if you have to replace the shaving blade. So, when you slip on the cap it fits in nice and easy.
It also has a standard pop-up trimmer on the back which is good for shaving your sideburns or trimming your beard.
I got a nice smooth finish when I used the Panasonic Arc 4 dry shaving.
The other way you can use is wet where you can use it in the shaver or more commonly you can just use it over the sink. You just set it up the same way you would shave with a disposable blade. So, you wash your face with some nice warm water, rub in some shaving cream or some shaving gel and just have the sink running and every three or four strokes just take the razor head and just rinse it off.
Again I got a nice smooth shave by wet shaving.
Arc 5 and Arc 4 Similarities and Differences
Both models have the same motor which is 14 thousand CPM. The main difference between the two is that the Arc 5 has five blades. The five-bladed model is definitely more expensive which is worth it if you have a thick beard however, Arc 4 is perfect if you have medium to light beard.
The Panasonic Arc 5 does have some benefits worth mentioning:
- It has one of the best shaving performance out there
- It provides a truly luxurious shave along with a more premium look
- It has the lift-tech foil technology which covers hardened areas like the jawline.
Make sure to read my Panasonic Arc 5 review before considering buying this shaver, and here are the reviews you can read from other buyers on Amazon:
The Panasonic Arc 4 Benefits:
- Quite comfortable Shave
- Very little to no irritation and perfect for sensitive skin
- It has the 360 multifex pivoting head which moves side to side and back and forth.
- Few strokers required since the shaving head is bigger compared to previous models
The downside is that:
- It is very noisy
- It is slightly big making it difficult to reach some areas
Which Shaver Is Ideal For Thick Beards?
The Arc 4 offers the best shaving experience possible. It has amazing features that make shaving smooth. However, people with thick beards will not benefit from the 4-blade shaver. Fortunately, there are foil shavers in the market for thick beards like the Braun Series 7 or the Panasonic Arc 5 that work perfectly fine.
Firstly, the cleaning station doesn’t really have that much improvement and it’s not really the best cleaning station on the market. so, you might want to consider just getting the Pansonic ES-LA63S so, that’s just the electric shaver in silver or grey and it comes without the cleaning station. These electric shavers are waterproof so, they can easily be cleaned manually but, the prices for these have dropped so there isn’t a huge difference between the cleaning station vs no cleaning station because I think the price difference is 40$.
Arc 4, however, has its downside too. For instance, the cleaning dock of the Arc 4 is noisy as well as the shaver itself. Also, it is not an ideal shaver for people with thicker beards.
However, this is shaver is among the top and I highly recommend this shaver for medium to lighter beards. I can gladly say you won’t be disappointed in this electric shaver.
